Community Connection - A social networking site for township officials [Click to open page http://community.michigantownships.org/MICHIGANTOWNSHIPS/MICHIGANTOWNSHIPS/Home/ in a new window

Welcome ... We're glad you stopped by to learn more about how MTA's online community can benefit you!

"Community Connection" is an online networking site targeted to address the needs of township officials by providing officials from all over Michigan the opportunity to learn from one another about trends and best practices.

Designed to replace the MTA listserv, this new tool provides a "virtual community" where township officials and other community leaders can gather 24/7, 365 days a year to exchange information and share files, including sample documents, with one another.

The new social media site will also provide a means for those with common interests to form special groups, where they can delve deeper into subject matter that is more specific to their needs. In addition, "Community Connection" will provide a forum for discussing issues of importance affecting all townships, with the opportunity to create blogs and participate in polls.

How to join the conversation

A free service to member townships, "Community Connection" is accessible through the home page on the MTA Web site (look for the "Community Connection" logo on the left-hand side) with one quick log-in. Township Allied Service Providers may also participate in the community.

Be as active as you would like-from posting questions to contributing sample documents and sharing ideas. Or, you may just prefer to listen in on the commentary. The choice is yours, and you can customize settings that deliver and manage the site to address your specific needs and wants, whether that's in real-time or digest form.

Keeping you connected

Take advantage of this newest member benefit and become part of the MTA online community that will keep you connected, while providing you with access to valuable conversations and a wealth of information. If you are interested in becoming part of "Community Connection," complete the password request form.

Why is being part of an online community important to you?

"One of the greatest benefits of having a social media site dedicated to local officials is that you can stay ahead of potential problems by getting the pulse of what is happening statewide on a township level."

-John Gaudette, Trustee

Breitung Charter Township (Dickinson Co.)

"Having instant access is really important to me, along with the convenience of participating in discussions on my time, as my schedule allows. It's a great way to share sample documents, such as tax bills and ordinances, so that everyone can view them and adapt them to their own township's needs."

-Pamela Beck, Treasurer

Somerset Township (Hillsdale Co.)

"A user-friendly social network for MTA members could prove to be a valuable tool for township officials. I especially like the opportunity for special interest groups to be able to share ideas, documents, and more. Often, our best practices come from suggestions given by other township leaders in similar circumstances. If used regularly and wisely, this site could prove as popular as Facebook®."

-Bonnie Blackledge, CMC, Clerk

Cannon Township (Kent Co.)

"I look forward to reading the questions, answers and comments. I think that having a networking site is one of the best things to be offered by MTA."

-Kevin Beeson, Supervisor

Pine River Township (Gratiot Co.)
