Fire Commissioner

In a township with an established fire department, the township board can appoint a member to serve as a liaison between the township board and the fire department. The commissioner would discuss issues and make recommendations to the township board on behalf of the fire department, its fire chief and fire fighters. Having a commissioner would avoid having all township board member involved with the day-to-day responsibilities of the fire department and give one person the duty to represent both the board and the fire department.
