Townships are authorized to appropriate funds and levy taxes to provide activities or services to persons 60 years or older, including improvement of their social, legal, health, housing, educational, emotional, nutritional, recreational or mobility status.
The appropriation of funds for senior services shall be approved by a majority of the membership of the township board.
Townships may contract with public or private nonprofit organizations for planning, coordinating, evaluating and providing services to seniors.
Notice of a contract with a private organization, specifying the terms of the contract, shall be published in a newspaper of general circulation within 10 days following approval by the township board.
