Traffic Officer

Under MCL 41.813, the township board may, by majority vote of the membership, employ one or more traffic officers.

The compensation of the officer or officers is paid from the general fund of the township.

By a majority vote of all the township boards, two or more townships may appoint a traffic officer at a joint meeting of those township boards, and the proportion of the compensation of the traffic officer or officers to be paid by each of the townships must be determined at this joint meeting.

Both a charter or a general law township board may delegate these appointment powers to an administrative board appointed by the township board. (MCL 41.812)
