As employers, townships must comply with federal and state regulations that require certain workplace postings to inform employees of their rights under the law.
This website is designed to help townships understand the federal and state requirements for posting workplace posters. MTA highly recommends updating workplace posters annually.
PURCHASED VERSUS DOWNLOADED
Letters or emails predicting fines and penalties if you don't buy an advertising company's laminated labor posters are false. Employers are not required to purchase labor law posters from private vendors to be in compliance with federal and state laws.
Federal and State law does require notices to be posted prominently and conspicuously where they can be readily seen by both employees and applicants for employment.
Individual posters meeting federal and state requirements are free from the various regulatory agencies responsible for their enforcement and can be downloaded using the following links.

*As of October 1, 2006, township employees who are subject to the minimum wage, overtime, and compensatory time requirements of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) are now subject to the Michigan minimum wage, but still subject to the overtime and compensatory time provisions of the FLSA. Therefore, townships are only required to post the Michigan minimum wage poster.

FEDERAL WORKPLACE POSTERS
Equal Employment Opportunity Laws (EEO (8/08): Applies to all townships.
To determine township applicability, see specific Acts covered by the federal nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws including: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, Americans with Disabilities Act Title I and Title V, Equal Pay Act of 1963, Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Because these laws are complicated and the impact on individual townships will vary based on specific circumstances, MTA strongly recommends that township boards consult with local human resources personnel or legal counsel for specific guidance on equal employment opportunity issues.

MIOSHA Annual Posting Requirement
The Michigan Occupational Health and Safety Administration (MIOSHA) requires most Michigan employers with 11 or more employees to log and maintain records of work-related injuries and illnesses, and to make those records available during MIOSHA inspections of the workplace.
Employers must post the MIOSHA Form 300A (Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses) for three months, from Feb. 1 to April 30 of each year. The form is available on the Internet at:
www.michigan.gov/recordkeeping.
