Chesterfield Charter Township (Macomb Co.) has been recognized for exceptional service, commitment and adherence to best practices in election administration, earning a Certificate of Achievement in the Michigan Townships Association’s (MTA) prestigious Township of Excellence program.
A certificate of achievement is awarded to townships that complete a rigorous application process and successfully meet the high-level criteria in a specific area of township operations, as defined by the Association and its members. As state Election Law has changed dramatically in recent years, the Chesterfield Charter Township board, department heads and election administrators have made concerted efforts to engage with their voters and others, to educate and ensure awareness on these changes and expanded voter rights, and to help ensure confidence in their local elections.
“The recent award of a Certificate of Achievement serves as a strong signal to residents and stakeholders that Chesterfield Township is not only meeting expectations but exceeding them,” said Mason Brudzinski, township elections coordinator. “By embracing best practices and acting strategically and efficiently, the township continues to deliver high-quality services, strengthen community engagement, and enhance the overall value provided to its citizens.”
With increasing complexity in local clerks’ elections-related duties, “clerks continue to demonstrate resilience, navigating an ever-evolving landscape and embracing change—often without formal recognition,” Brudzinski continued. “In this context, receiving a certificate that acknowledges we are operating above and beyond the traditional scope of our role is both meaningful and affirming. It reinforces that our efforts are not only impactful, but that we are maximizing the value we provide to the community.”
The recognition honors the work of the Chesterfield Charter Township for its efforts during the 2024-2028 term of office.
“We commend Chesterfield Charter Township, whose exemplary leadership and dedication has truly exceeded statutory requirements to help ensure their constituents have trust in their local elections and to uphold and safeguard this critical local role,” said 2025 MTA President Harold Koviak, Burt Township (Cheboygan Co.) supervisor.
MTA defines a “Township of Excellence” as a strong, vibrant community governed by a township board that adheres to best practices to deliver quality programs and services to accomplish community-driven goals. Learn more about the program at michigantownship.org.
