Upcoming Training

MTA's Board of Review Training is back!

Every board of review member (and alternate) must complete State Tax Commission-approved training at least once every two years. This year, MTA is offering 10 in-person Board of Review Training classes, plus several online dates to help your township meet the requirement. We’ve got advanced training too!

Whether you need to satisfy the biennial training requirement OR are seeking next level training, we’ve got you covered. Here’s what we’ll discuss:

  • PA 660 Required Training for Board of Review Members (Approved by the STC, meets the biennial training requirement): An overview of the board’s role and statutory authority, how to handle protests, July and December boards of review, key items and updates for 2025.
  • Advanced Training: Board of Review Management (For those who’ve already met the training requirement; this class does NOT meet the STC’s training  requirement): Procedural changes, best practices for minutes and agendas, administration of paperwork and forms, how to respond and when to punt to your assessor, 2025 trouble spots and hot topics, key points of the PA 660 audit.  *Advanced class is only available at Gaylord, Mt. Pleasant and Jackson.

Prefer online training? Choose from three live online Basics classes, or one Advanced class:

    • Feb. 6: 4 to 8 p.m. – PA 660 Required Training
    • Feb. 18: 1 to 5 p.m. – PA 660 Required Training
    • Feb. 28: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – PA 660 Required Training
    • Feb. 27: 1 to 5 p.m. – Advanced Training (does not meet STC training requirement)

Online participants in the PA 660 classes must keep their cameras on and remain visible for the full duration of class and complete a quiz at the end to receive certification.

Winter weather make you nervous? Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow will keep us from our educational offerings. The show must go on! MTA does NOT issue refunds for registrants choosing not to attend a workshop due to inclement weather. If you deem travel conditions unsafe, please know that we allow last-minute switches to either the online version of the course (for no extra charge), or to another in-person class (for a $25 administrative fee) when space at other locations allows. Please call MTA at 517-321-6467 in advance to check on availability for in-person switches or email education@michigantownships.org to request a switch to the online class.
