Department of Public Works Director

Oscoda Charter Township (Iosco Co.) is seeking a Department of Public Works (DPW) Director to supervise the department. Oscoda Charter Township is a Lake Huron/AuSable River community in northeast Michigan (population 7,200) with a tourism orientation along with significant commercial activity on the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base including a major Kalitta Air facility.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Township Manager, The DPW Director plans, assigns, supervises and participates in all DPW/Building and Grounds workload and activities. Functions as a working foreman with additional administrative duties such as budget oversight, work reporting and capital planning. Performs related work as required. Supervision is exercised over full- and part-time employees in the DPW/Building and Grounds Department. Oversees and participates in all department vehicle and equipment maintenance.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate from an accredited high school or equivalent supplemented by training in basic electrical, mechanical operations, plumbing, heating and cooling.

Experience: Six years of related experience of which three years is supervisory experience is required.

A valid CDL is required. A Class B CDL with Air Brakes or above required.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

Considerable knowledge of procedures, practices, materials and operation of equipment utilized in the maintenance and repair of building facilities and grounds.

Knowledge of public and employee safety practices to minimize injury and property damage at Township facilities.

Ability to train employees in correct and safe operation of mechanical equipment.

Ability to plan, organize, supervise and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in a variety of repair and maintenance activities. Ability to make sound decisions on operational and employee problems. Ability to prepare and maintain written reports.

Skill in interpreting blueprints and specifications.

Ability to work for extended periods in adverse weather conditions. Must have the ability to see, hear and speak well to perform duties. Must be physically mobile and be able to climb, stoop to perform duties.

 

Annual salary range is $55,000.00 – $65,000.00 (DOQIE).
