Cooper Charter Township trustee elected to Michigan Townships Association Board of Directors

Cooper Charter Township (Kalamazoo Co.) Trustee JimFrederick has been appointed as District 19 director on the Michigan Townships Association Board of Directors. Serving Michigan’s 1,240 townships, MTA is the largest municipal association in the state and one of the largest in the nation. Frederick was sworn in to his new position on the MTA Board at the Association’s 2024 Annual Educational Conference & Expo, held April 22-25 at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme Township.

As director of MTA District 19, which encompasses Allegan, Barry and Kalamazoo Counties, Frederick will help to represent and strengthen township government on the Association board—as he has in his own township since his first election as trustee in 1997. Whether at the local, county or now statewide level, Frederick is proud to be a public servant.

“I have a statement that I often use: ‘I am a trustee of Cooper Charter Township, in the county of Kalamazoo, in the great state of Michigan, of the United State of America,’ and I proudly stand by that,” Frederick said. “I am a consensus-builder and consider myself wa voice to the citizens in my community—and will bring the needs of our townships and our residents to the state level.”

In addition to serving more than 19 years total as trustee, Frederick is also the township board’s liaison to the planning commission and treasurer of the Kalamazoo County MTA Chapter, where he has also served as president, clerk and trustee. He was also a member of the 2004 Kalamazoo County Justice Millage Committee.
