The 2023 assessor certification level requirements for townships, cities and counties were recently approved by the State Tax Commission (STC). The values contained in the Township & City Certification Level Requirements Document have been updated to reflect the appropriate state equalized value (SEV) amounts and are scheduled to be reviewed and approved at the Oct. 4 STC meeting. A township required to have an assessor with Michigan master assessing officer (MMAO) certification for 2022 must continue to have an MMAO-level assessor until the township can show a decrease in SEV for two consecutive years. A township or assessor who believes they meet the conditions for a waiver of the required certification level requirement may submit the appropriate form to the STC by Oct. 31, 2022. See the STC’s Bulletin 7 of 2022 for more information on assessor certification level requirements.
