Matthew Beattie, Boon Township (Wexford Co.) supervisor, has been elected 2026 secretary of the Michigan Townships Association (MTA). In this role, Beattie serves on the Association’s executive committee, which—along with the entire board of directors—provides strategic and operational guidance to MTA, which serves more than 99% of Michigan’s 1,240 townships.
Beattie joined the MTA Board in 2022, when he was elected director of MTA District 9, which encompasses Clare, Missaukee, Oscoda and Wexford Counties. He has been township supervisor since 2020. Beattie says that helping residents solve issues has been a rewarding part of his service to his township—which he looks forward to broadening in his leadership role helping to guide the state’s largest municipal organization.
“I would like to expand the networking abilities not only among neighboring townships, but also neighboring counties to reach common goals,” he said of his own goals serving as MTA leadership, adding that he “would also like to pursue education to be able to use to provide increased growth, safety and well-being to the residents in my township.”
