Hone your Board Leadership skills this January with MTA’s Winter Academy

Three timely township topics over two days in one great location!

MTA can offer insights into your role on (and with) the board, techniques for improving group decision-making and a better understanding of your township’s authority in serving your residents. Join your colleagues from around the state at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth this January 13-14, 2026, for any (or all!) of the courses below:

  • Board Roles & Relationships: a morning class held Jan. 13 reviewing individual roles (like watchdog, supporter and communicator) and the impact they have on the board and within your community.
  • How Boards Make Decisions: an afternoon class on Jan. 13 offering techniques that maximize the effectiveness of group decisions and guide your board to make informed choices with improved outcomes (and less headaches)!
  • At Your Service – Meeting Township Needs: a full-day class on Jan. 14 exploring authority, funding, legal requirements and risk management that comes with providing services to the residents in your community.

2026 Board of Review Training

Throughout February, MTA is offering both online and in-person Board of Review Training for elected officials around the state, to ensure you can get the training you need at a time and place that’s convenient for you. We’ve got advanced training too!

Whether you’re an MTA member, or serve in a city, village or non-member township, MTA’s STC-approved training will get you up-to-date and keep you in compliance with the PA 660 training requirement.

Our “Basic” training meets the biennial training requirement, while the Advanced class takes you beyond the basics, perfect for supervisors, assessors and those who completed the basic course last year. Uncertain which class you might need? Click here for details.

City or village officials or individuals from non-member townships may still attend MTA training, but must register using the non-member form found here, and must submit payment with the registration form. (Online registration is not available for non-members.)
